Alternatives to herbicides in apple orchards
Cover materials or cover crops can be an alterative to herbicides, without affecting fruit yield and quality. Earthworms thrives under rape straw but not under black polypropylene or by mechanical weeding. A questionaire showed that consumers are ready to pay more for apples produced witout herbicides.Mouse is a major problem where cover materials are used.

Alternativer til bly i erhvervsfiskeri er afprøvet. For synk lykkedes det at fremstille og afprøve alternativer af zink og støbejern. For synkeliner og vodtove lykkedes det ikke at fremstille et produktionsklare alternativer. Tøndeformede synk af zink og støbejern fungerer lige så fint som synk lavet af bly.

Environmentally friendly diapers without acrylic acid
Abena has substituted the super-absorbing agent based on acrylic acid to an absorbent based on wheat starch and granulates. The sizing material is substituted to a mixture of resin and vegetable oil, the top band to a mixture of lycra and plastics. The paper used is bleached without use of chlorine.

Chloroparaffins are used in considerable amounts as high-pressure additives in metal working lubricants. They are considered risky in terms of health and the environment. Permanent wave lotions for permanent-waving of hair almost always contain ammonia (CAS No. 7664-41-7 Ammonia ) and mercaptoacetic acid (CAS No. 68-11-1 α-Mercaptoacetic acid ). Hairdressers experience respiratory problems and skin irritation. An environmentally certified hairdresser has found a permanent wave lotion with amino acid instead of mercaptoacetic acid and ethanolamine instead of ammonia.

Reducing the use of chlorine-containing bleaching agents in the textile industry
The textile industry uses bleaching agents containing sodium chlorite, hypochlorite of soda and hydrogen peroxide together with hardly-degradable coordinate links. These can be replaced by hydrogen peroxide combined with more environmentally sound coordinate links, such as polycarboxylates, polyacrylates, hydroxy carboxyl acid or sugar copolymers.
