Substitution of TGIC hardener in powder finishThe substance triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC (cas 2451-62-9 1,3,5-Triglycidyl isocyanurate )) was used as hardener in the production of powder finish. TGIC is an allergenic and T-labelled substance. The example refers to a report comparing the environmental impacts that occur if TGIC is replaced by beta-hydroxy alkylamide. There are both advantages and disadvantages related to this substitution. Link to report with English abstract. COWI A/S - Thursday, November 01, 2007
Replacement of biocides in bottom paint for ships with enzymesThe use of tributyltins, TBT, as anti-fouling agents for ships of less than 25 m has been forbidden in Denmark since 1991. The project collects information about many alternative biocides and examines whether proteolytic enzymes can replace the anti-fouling agents currently used in bottom paints, e.g. copper. Substitution of cobalt siccatives in air-drying paintsCobalt siccatives, methyl ethyl ketoxime and hydroquinone are all chemical compounds used as additives in air-drying paints and inks. Due to their damaging effects on the environment and health, there is a general wish to reduce the use of these substances. Various alternatives to the substances concerned have been examined, as regards both their technical suitability and their effects on the environment and health, and assessed in relation to the present products.
